Kusum begins long before the first bouquet was ever tied.
It begins in the early 1940s, at a wedding where a young bride, my grandmother, was gifted something quietly extraordinary: a crockery set, thoughtfully commissioned in Japan, each piece delicately engraved with her name, Kusum. It was not just a gift from my great grandparents to my grandmother, but a gesture of intention, of care, artistry, and permanence.
Decades later, those pieces remain. Slightly worn, deeply cherished, and still carrying her name.
Naming the brand Kusum was instinctive. Not only because it means “flower” in Hindi, but because it carries her spirit, her grace, her warmth, and her quiet appreciation for beauty in the everyday.
Flowers, like moments, are fleeting. But when arranged with thought, when chosen with care, they linger, just like those engraved pieces have, across time.
At Kusum, we design with that same intention:
to make something ephemeral feel lasting,
and something delicate feel deeply meaningful.
The images below are of that original crockery set, preserved, personal, and quietly at the heart of everything we do.
